Luc is a gifted small animal surgeon. Academically, he completed 4 years of veterinary courses and 5 years of doctoral courses at the famous Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, the Netherlands, from 2004 to 2013 and obtained a PhD degree. Then he obtained the European College of Veterinary Surgeons Specialist Certification (DECVS) in 2021 and became a certified specialist. Clinically, Dr. Luc Smolders has been working in private animal hospitals and university teaching animal hospitals since 2008, accumulating a large number of surgical cases and experience. During 2013-2024, Luc also worked as a postdoctoral fellow and published a large number of clinical research results, including projects in cooperation with his mentor, Professor Bjorn Meij.
Dr. Luc Smolders is currently a neurosurgeon, orthopedic and soft tissue surgeon at Bessy's Kleintierklinik, the largest private small animal clinic in Switzerland.

Mark Dirven, DVM, ECVIM-CA (Cardiology)
DVM, European Veterinary Cardiologist, Associate Editor of the Journal of Veterinary Cardiology and Board Member of the European Society of Veterinary Cardiology.
Mark graduated from Utrecht University in 2004. Since then, Mark has worked as a clinician in cardiology, ultrasonography and internal medicine in several veterinary clinics in the Netherlands.
In January 2012, Mark started an ECVIM-CA (Cardiology) approved residency training program, combining his work in private practice with residency training in cardiology and internal medicine. In March 2017, Mark passed the certification exam and became a European Diplomate in Cardiology (Diplomate ECVIM-CA Cardiology), and now he is one of the few cardiologists in the Netherlands.
Mark has worked as a cardiologist and a discipline leader at the Utrecht University Teaching Animal Hospital and a private referral center. He is not only responsible for clinical work, but also a training leader for large animal medical groups.
Mark is very good at training in echocardiography and has taught echocardiography training courses in various countries and regions in Europe and Asia. He has also led many clinical research projects and co-published dozens of articles.

CSAVS 8th Anniversary Celebration & 2024 CSAVS International Veterinarians Congress

The Small Animal GI endoscopy + Hepatobiliary Medicine course aims to explore in depth the diagnosis and treatment techniques of small animal gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary system diseases. The course will combine the latest medical research results to systematically introduce the operation skills of small animal GI endoscopy, clinical manifestations of hepatobiliary diseases, diagnostic methods and treatment strategies.
The course content will focus on the combination of theory and practice. Through case analysis, actual operation and other methods, students can fully master the diagnosis and treatment skills of small animal g GI endoscopy and hepatobiliary medicine and improve their clinical diagnosis and treatment level.
The course lasts for a total of 3 days and can be divided into theory and practice. There is no limit on the number of people in the theory part. In order to ensure the quality of teaching, only 20 people are enrolled in the practical part. Please see below for specific arrangements.

This course invites top international experts to come out and teach in China again, and small class teaching, combining theory and practice, the lecturer brings a lot of slides of actual cytology cases, so that the participating veterinarians can see more cases in three days and "quickly accumulate experience"!

Joachim Proot joined IVC Evidensia in the beginning of 2019. He has 15 years of experience in referral practice in the United Kingdom and he is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons. He has a particular interest in soft tissue surgery and oncological reconstructive surgery and he works in the Evidensia Animal Hospitals Barendrecht and Hart van Brabant. He has published several peer-reviewed articles and has spoken at several international conferences. Most importantly, he has spent most of his career in private practice and understands like nobody else the pressures and constraints first opinion vets are under. His lectures always strike the right balance between theory and practice and everyone who comes to this module will go home more enthusiastic about soft tissue surgery regardless of his or her surgical ability.

European Veterinary Dermatologist Annette is a dermatologist with a double doctorate degree. Since her certification as a European Veterinary Dermatologist 15 years ago, she has worked as a dermatologist at the prestigious Teaching Animal Hospital of the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Utrecht, at the IVC and other large referral hospitals, where she has seen tens of thousands of cases of all types of dermatological disorders in dogs and cats, a large proportion of which are referral cases. She is the dermatology subject leader of the IVC Evidensia Group and a resident mentor at the European College of Veterinary Dermatology (ECVD), where she has trained several European veterinary dermatologists. She is also a reviewer for the academic journal Veterinary Dermatology.

This hands-on training course is urgently needed and heavily utilized in almost all veterinary hospitals, with the primary goal of training in the use of ultrasound to diagnose, monitor, and support treatment protocols in emergency and critical cases. e.g., how to assess volume resuscitation in an animal in hypovolemic shock, how much and how fast to rehydrate the animal, and whether there are concerns about over-rehydration, which can be used to inform treatment protocols. e.g., is the respiratory distress a case of cardiac failure or pleural effusion or pneumothorax, and how to assess and manipulate it, and how to perform punctures to the thoracic cavity, pericardium, and lung lobes?
